Just Cross Stitch 10 Year CD

This week Annie's Publishing (the new owners of JCS & SANQ) released a CD with all of the Just Cross Stitch issues from 2001-2010 on it, including the annual Ornament Issue for those years. At $49.95 it's a great value for anyone who collects the magazine. Each magazine is a fully searchable PDF and is also printer-friendly. Our first shipment (which is expected to arrive on June 12th) is already spoken for but we'll be ordering more on June 10th. If you'd like obtain a copy of this CD, you'll find it in our online magazine catalog, or give us a call during store hours.

Book Listing Updated

We're going through our book cabinet and updating our book listings. We found we have 4 copies of the out-of-print Ackworth School Memory Book by Needleprint - regularly $35, on sale for $25 as well as a few other out-of-print books. If you're looking for OOP books you might check out our online catalog.

WoolFlannel & WoolFelt Added

We have carried a few colors of the 100% wool WoolFelt® for some time and after our recent visit to the Portland Quilt Market have picked up several colors of their mixed wool/rayon blends (20% wool/80% rayon or 35% wool/65% rayon). Both of these WoolFelt® blends are great for creating 3 dimensional needlework accessories, scissors cases, needlebooks, etc. You'll find WoolFelt® in our online catalog along with photos of the colors, or by visiting the shop.

Also a purchase from Quilt Market is wool flannel in a variety of colors. Wool flannel has much more drape to it than WoolFelt® does, making it ideal for those projects requiring a softer wool fabric, and ideal for the pages in a needlebook. New Ort Bowl Shipment

We love getting our hand-turned wood shipment from Wray - it's like Christmas unpacking the goodies. We got a new shipment of the cute little ort bowls and this time we ordered some out of the same wood for the top and bottom. This shipment features Yellow Cedar Burl, Cocobola and Purple Heart containers. You can order them via our online catalog or by giving us call.

Kathy Rees - Needle Delights Originals Classes Date Correction

In today's e-mail newsletter the dates for Kathy classes were listed incorrectly as October 11-13. Kathy will be here October 25-27, 2013. At present we are taking refundable deposits for Kathy's classes. Full details will be posted after mid-June when Kathy is done designing our projects!

Jackie duPlessis is now scheduled to come teach at the shop October 12-14, 2014. We'll post details on Jackie's classes in early 2014.

Crystaletts - Bling for your stitching

At the February TNNA show in Long Beach we picked up some fun little crytal buttons that can add a bit of bling to your stitching - called Crystaletts. They are 3mm crystals mounted into a button body. Even with the shank they are small enough that you can attach them to your needlework project - just make a hole for the shank, push it through the fabric and then sew through the shank on the back.

We picked up a few of their Limited Edition packages with 50 Crystaletts, which has several of each color & button housing - $30 for the package. If you want purchase individual Crystaletts we have a few of the colors - those we thought were most attractive in stitching. All of the colors come in either the Nickel, Gold or Black Rhodium base but for needlework we liked the gold base the best. If you want purchase some individual Crytaletts they are $.60/ea.

Coming Soon - Crafter's Tote

Blue Fig makes a very stylish and useful crafting tote (9x9x8), which is great for stitching, sewing, beading, gardening and even as a tool tote. It comes in 6 colors - Red, Lime, Black, Pink, Purple and Cobalt (not pictured). We'll be getting at least one of each color in the next couple of weeks - so stay tuned for more details when they arrive!

Stella Sky Coming to NIAH

At this past weekend's Portland Quilt Market we found a fabulous new lamp and one will be coming to the shop soon. Stella Lighting has created a 3-color LED lamp that gives you the option for Warm (Icandescent 2800K), Natural (Sunlight 4000K), and Cool (Night 5500K), changing the color the bulbs generate. This means that not only is it great for stitching (Daylight), but for reading, watching TV or any other activity.

At $389 for the Sky (floor lamp) this not likely to be a lamp you take with you to class, but as your main stitching lamp next to your work area it's a multi-purpose lamp. It adjusts from 4-6 feet in height and has a magnetic remote so you can change the light from your stitching area and when done, the remote attaches magnetically to the lamp.

While there is a desk version, we felt the floor version offers the best value and flexibility for stitching. One will be coming to the shop soon so that you can try it out for yourself. If you decide you want a table top version (great for sewing, beading, etc.) we can certainly order it. We'll announce when we have one in stock - then plan to come by and bring some stitching to see Stella Sky in action.

Substitutes for Needlepoint Now projects

The Mar/Apr (Daffodils) and May/June (Tulips) 2013 issues of Needlepoint Now each features a design by Merrilyn Heazlewood from Australia. One of the threads the designs call for is YLI Multis, which is no longer made and hard to find. We have discussed this with Merrilyn and with the Needlepoint Now Editor and have substitutes that we believe will work nicely and are more readily available in the US. If you decide you must have the YLI Multis you can purchase them from uncommonthread.com, which YLI referred us to for consumer sales.

We are also listing substitutions for the Gumnuts Blossoms and Buds, since we no longer carry any of the Gumnuts threads. If you're looking for them contact Thistle Needleworks, who is the US distributor for Gumnuts.

New Little House Needleworks Mystery Sampler Coming in June

Diane Williams of Little House Needleworks will be releasing a new 3-part Mystery sampler in June. Entitled Song of the Seaons it's stitched on Weeks Dye Works linen (Straw) and floss.

Cute New Wood Items

The fabulous British Columbia woodworker we purchase many of gift items from has done it again. A few weeks ago he sent us a photo of a tiny round Ort bowl. We suggested a change, to make them look a bit more like acorns (we love acorns) and viola - our dimuitive little ort bowls have come to the shop.

As with most hand-made wood items the wood species vary. These typically come in Cocobola, Yellow Cedar Burl, Purple Heart and Zebra. The tops and bases are a different wood, although we can special order them out of a single wood type. Each is 2.5" tall (to the top of the knob) and 2" across the top of the bowl. Great for a whole variety of little items - and even just to enjoy looking at them! You'll find them in our online Wood Gifts catalog.

Needle Tins from Access Commodities

Needle tins are a popular way to store your needles and other small items. Access Commodities has introduced a set of 4 slide-top tins where the covers look like patterned fabric.

Each tin is large enough to hold a large number of needles and even a few threaders thrown in. Add your own tiny magnets to the mix and you've got a great way to keep needles and threaders organized and in place.

 

  

Sold in a set of 4 tins they are $11.00/set. You'll find them in the shop with our other accessories or in our online catalog under Needle Storage, where you will also find our 10/pk of 1/4" x 1/16" tiny Rare Earth Magnets ($3.50/pkg).

New thread photos & a new thread!

We have added photos to our online catalog for Bella LUSSO and Twinkle. For both of these threads if you click on the thumbnail on their respective catalog page, you'll get a larger photo. As with all thread photos, we do not recommend you color match using them - they are to give you an idea of what a color looks like.

Next week week we'll be receiving our order of a "new to the US" DMC thread called Diamant. We're having it imported for us since we've had requests and at the present time, DMC USA is not carrying it.

It's a metallic thread made in Japan that looks very yummy. Since we've not had it in stock yet we're really looking forward to stitching with it. The spools retail for $3.00 and come in 2 shades of gold, 2 shades of silver, copper and most importantly, a black/gold mix.
