ThreadworX Overdyed Floss Will Arrive This Week

One of the long time dyers from Needle Necessities, who left NN a couple of years ago, started a new company in 2007 called ThreadworX. She is dyeing many of the same types of threads and we have decided to pick up the Overdyed Floss, which we are expecting to arrive this week. The names and numbers of the ThreadworX colors are completely different however many of the colors are very close and can be substituted, plus there are some new colors. We have added the ThreadworX Overdyed Floss to the online catalog and made a notation where a color is a substitute for a Needle Necessities color number.

You can visit the ThreadworX website for more details on their other thread lines, which are only available by special order from us. At the present time we don't plan to carry more than the floss line.

We have left the Needle Necessities pages up for reference since the include photos of the original NN colors.

Judith Hayle Samplers Book Has Arrived

We just got our shipment of the new Needleprint book - Judith Hayle Samplers by Edith Ehrman. It has been added to our online catalog. This looks to be a really great reference book on samplers.

We have several items for sale in the shop and you can visit our Sales page for more details. We have most of our R&R Fabrics on sale for 50% off. We only plan to carry a few 30, 35 and 40 count fabrics going forward as we have picked up more of the Lakeside Linens and carry all the Weeks Dye Works fabrics and Birds of a Feather colors and counts. We also have Grab Bags of R&R for $5/pkg.

Also on sale are the JL Walsh Silk, Silk Twist, Silk Perle and Silk/Wool threads for 50% off retail. We will continue to special order these but we need to make room for other threads.

Burmilana Added to On-Line Catalog

We are now carrying all the colors of Burmilana and have added them to our on-line catalog, along with photographs of most of the colors. This is great blending thread, especially for those of you missing Medici. It's 50% wool/50% acrylic and is quite strong, as it is one of Madeira's machine embroidery threads.

CA Wells - Mermail Pocket Purse class

CA Wells will be here the end of February and we have selected her projects. One is a pre-stitching project - the Mermaid Pocket Purse. The class will be Sunday, February 24 from 9:30am - 4:30pm and you will need to pre-stitch the band and the bottom of the purse before class. We'll spend our class time assembling the purse so you'll learn how to join linen-linen and linen-silk, all from the outside. We expect to receive the kits around Christmas and they will be sent when we have received your payment for the class of $195. You can sign-up on-line or by calling the shop.

As with all of CA's projects we are not able to sell the kits without your attending the class.

New Gift Items

We have a couple of new Gift items added to our on-line catalog. Stitcher's Lotion is non-greasy formula made for our specific use and comes in several fragrances. The Diva Fiber Cord Maker is a fun tool for making all types of cording with threads, yarn and even strung beads. You'll find these items on our Gifts page along with many other fun treasures.

Phillipa Turnbull coming in a month!

Phillipa will be here in a month to teach a wonderful leaf motif from a chair in Leven's Hall, located in Cumbria England. It's a 6 inch detail in blues, browns and reds with 2 variations of laid and couch work, and a modified coral stitch. Class fee is $140 and includes your kit, lunch and the lecture after class. You'll also get to use one of Phillipa's seat frames during class to make stitching easier. Class is Sunday January 6th from 9:30am - 3:30pm.

A lecture will follow from 4pm - 5pm and is open to those not in the class for a fee of $25 (it is included in your class fee).

Fun at shop on Halloween

We had a lot of trick-or-treaters at the shop on Halloween - our business district hosts a party for kids under 12 in the afternoon and they visit most of the shops during that time. We had so many we ran out of candy about 4:30 (they come between noon and 5pm). We wanted you to have some vicarious fun with us so we put together a little video clip of 3 of our visitors and of a great Halloween house in the neighborhood nearby. Hope you too had a fun a Halloween!

Needle Necessities Has Closed

We'd been having difficulty getting thread from Needle Necessities since the beginning of the year and I thought this was a likely precursor to them going out of business by year end if they didn't get their act together. Unfortunately that turned out to be the case and Needle Necessities closed the business some time in September. We have never officially been notified by them they are closed but it has been reported by a number of reputable people, the website is now gone and no one answers the phone. So I think it's a safe bet that even though they did not inform their customer they were closing, that they in fact have!

We have limited supplies of their threads so order soon if you need something. The on-line catalog pages are not up-to-date with what we actually have as we've been selling a lot every day. If you place an order we'll send what we can but as it's moving so quickly, we are not doing stock checks without an order being placed. At the moment we only about 30% of the floss colors and they will likely be gone within a week or so.

There are rumors of a company doing a replacement thread but before I consider doing business with anyone making such a claim I would want confirmation they have the rights to the color formulas from Needle Necessities. So if you hear these rumors, just know we're waiting to see what the legitimacy of it is.

Elaine Warner, who founded NN and passed away a few years ago, would be sad to see the end of a company she worked so hard to build into such a great source of threads. But it was a great run while she had the company and it's too bad the present owners couldn't keep it going.
